A cushion cover is a brilliant beginner-friendly peg loom project! Not only is the final product useful and comfy, but you can fully personalise it by choosing the colours so the finished cushion matches your space!
This is a step-by-step guide for how I made a peg loom cushion cover:
You will need:
- Cushion
- Tape measure
- Peg loom
- Cotton string
- Fabric strips
- Tapestry needle
- Buttons
- Thread
- Needle
Method:
This cushion cover is made by making one long strip of weaving on the peg loom then folding it in half.
1. Set up the peg loom. Place the cushion next to your peg loom and insert pegs until they are at the same width as the cushion. Add one extra peg to allow for seams (I used 18 pegs for a 45cm cushion but this depends on the size of your peg loom).
2. Set up the warps. Since we are making the front and back of the cushion in one long strip, your warps need to be the height of your cushion x 2 plus 10cm of extra length at the top and bottom for tying off the warps at the end.
3. Weaving time! Peg loom away! Think about the pattern and colours as you go. You want to create a tight weave to the length of the front+back of your cushion.

4. Remove your weaving from the peg loom. Tie off the warp ends and weave them in.

5. Fold the weaving in half with right sides together.
6. Sew the sides together. Using a tapestry needle and thick thread, use a mattress stitch to sew the bottom edge and one side of the cushion cover together.
Along with the folded edge, you now have 3 sides of the cushion sewn together and one that is open.

7. Turn the cushion to right sides facing out.
8. Choose some big buttons for your cushion. I used some I removed from an old skirt. I suggest using 4 buttons placed evenly down the cushion opening to create an even tension on the weaving.

9. Attach the buttons. The warp and weft strands make readymade button holes. Line up each button with a hole and sew them onto the back layer of the opening so they are visible on the front of your cushion when it is buttoned up.

10. Stuff your cushion into the cushion cover and voila! Your peg loom cushion cover is finished!
This cushion used approximately 4 tops and 6 pillow cases to make. Saying that, you could use any fabric you have to hand!
I would love to see your cushion cover if you make one! Why not leave a photo in the comments below to inspire others with your designs!
