Thank you to everyone who came out to Derbyshire Makes Chesterfield 2026! It was great to chat to so many other enthusiastic crafters and I hope everyone had a fantastic day exploring different craft types and gaining inspiration for their next project!
What is Derbyshire Makes Chesterfield?
Derbyshire Makes Chesterfield is a crafters dream! It involved 40 artists performing live demonstrations of their artwork in the newly refurbished market square.
My stall focused on recycled fabric crafting, with live demonstrations on how to do peg loom weaving using recycled materials.

The Craft Cycle Stall
The Craft Cycle is a project focused on using items that would otherwise end up in landfill. As such, I wanted to demonstrate a range of fabric up-cycling crafts in the hopes of inspiring others to turn their fabric waste into something beautiful.
Throughout the day, visitors were invited to have a go at peg looming and their contributions added together to make a beautiful wall decoration. Everyone did amazingly well and I hope it inspired some to carry on peg looming, be it on a forgotten loom or a newly handmade one.

A range of handmade items and decorations made using recycled fabric were on display, including peg looming rugs and cushions along with scrap fabric garlands, wreaths and trivets. Each had a little label attached describing the types of fabric used to make that piece which resulted in a lot of interesting discussions!

Along with this, a kids weaving station allowed little ones to have a go at weaving using recycled fabric, getting to understand the under-over rhythm of it. Check out these beautiful pieces that were produced:

I hope everyone had a fantastic time and felt inspired! If you have any questions about this event, or any other event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
